PATROL SECTION:
The Patrol Section is comprised of 1 Patrol Lieutenant, 4 Patrol Sergeants and 16 Patrol Officers. The 4 Sergeants and 16 officers are divided into 4 squads that provide 24 hours, seven days per week law enforcement services for the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Officers are tasked with the protection of life and property through the enforcement of Tribal, State and Federal Laws.
The Patrol Section is responsible for answering calls for service, responding to emergencies, writing police reports, providing preventative patrol and traffic enforcement. The Patrol Section investigates criminal incidents and assists citizens with civil matters. The Patrol Section also actively participates in various community events such as fun runs and walks, community meetings, school functions and the citizen’s police academy.
Officers provide security to the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation by having a visible presence within the nation. Officers routinely patrol the housing communities, businesses and enterprises to ensure that they are safe and secure. Officers are also challenged with the responsibility of patrolling the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation’s farms and agricultural areas, as well as the Verde River, which runs through the nation. Officers operate 4-wheel drive vehicles and on occasion, All Terrain Vehicles to achieve this task.
Patrol Officers are involved in the intervention and prevention aspect of law enforcement. The officers teach the Sooper Puppy, D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. programs at H’man Shawa Day School and the neighboring elementary school in Fountain Hills. The officers are also involved in the summer youth program, Camp Yavapai, where they teach various safety related topics. Patrol Officer also provides law related or safety related presentations to the community.
The Police Department has also partnered with various departments within the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation in an effort to intervene and prevent unwanted behavior and lifestyles. The Police Department is actively involved with assisting and supporting the Juvenile and Adult Wellness Court, the Yavapais Against Substance Abuse committee, the Housing Department, the Safety Committee and the Domestic Violence Abuse Prevention Team.
In addition to covering all the school programs, committee meetings, programs, special events and administrative assignments, the Community Action Squad assists the Patrol Section with traditional Police functions as needed.
