2012 Track and Field Day
On April 5, 2012, the H’man ‘Shawa Elentary School held its annual Track and Field events at the Recreation Center. Every year the Fort McDowell Police Department assists with this annual event, and this year was no exception. The day was filled with plenty of exciting activities ranging from a race around the south ball field, softball throw, short distance dash, running and standing long jumps, other fun events, and even an egg hunt. Fun was had by all the children, staff and officers. We look forward to next year’s event.

Fort McDowell Easter and Special Olympics
Every Easter the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation in conjunction with the Fort McDowell Casino puts on an Easter celebration at the Recreation Center for the community. This year’s Easter celebration was held on April 6th at the south ball field. For the past several years, the Fort McDowell Police Department has also been doing fundraisers for Arizona Special Olympics during this event. “Special Olympics provides every person with intellectual disabilities a place of welcome, acceptance and the chance to be their best”. More information can be found at http://specialolympicsarizona.com/.
This year the Fort McDowell Police Department received over $300 worth of donations by selling shaved ice, pickles, and candy, just to name a few items. All the proceeds donated during this event are donated to the Arizona Special Olympics. The Fort McDowell Police Department thanks the community for all the generous donations.
The next event will be the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics to be held on April 27, 2012. The Fort McDowell Police Department is currently accepting orders for items found the following website http://www.highlandweb.com/Public_Orders/Public_Order.asp. Again, all proceeds go back to the Arizona Special Olympics.
